Spider-Man 3: Friendly Neighborhood Re-Cut
Spider-Man 3 isn’t bad. At least, it isn’t all bad. Spider-Man 3: Friendly Neighborhood Re-Cut is my fan attempt at re-editing Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 to make the movie more closely match the rest of it’s trilogy in theme, feeling, and tone. My edit also re-shapes Parker’s character and interactions in the film to make him more closely relate to the Parker we love. (Long story short, he’s not a dick anymore.)
Download Spider Man 3 for free. Spider Man 3 - Based on Sony Pictures Entertainment's Columbia Pictures' upcoming feature film, Spider-Man 3 allows players to experience the actions of heroic red-suited Spider-Man and, for the first time ever, his darker, more mysterious black-suited persona. First time viewing the 'Editor's Cut'. It certainly can't save the film-and it still hurts to read about the wonderful, original plans for Spider-Man 3's plot-but this revised cut of the film does fix some of the pacing issues, and gives Harry a little more motivation for his actions. Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) finally has the girl of his dreams, Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst), and New York City is in the throes of Spider-mania!

(and hey, if someone wouldn’t mind getting a torrent started, let me know, and I’ll add it’s link to this post.)
Major changes (spoilers follow):
- Spider-Man is back to being your Friendly Neighborhood hero. Yes, he still has mood swings here and there, mostly from the symbiote, but he isn’t a jerk for no reason anymore. And he certainly doesn’t hit Mary Jane.
- No more Gwen Stacy story, and no more love triangles. (In fact, between Peter, Harry, M.J., Eddie, and Gwen, it was a love pentagon.) I realize that Peter has had many relationships in the original 616 canon, but he’s most enjoyable when he’s not being a terrible relationship partner.
- No more Jazzy evil Spidey.
- Run-time significantly cut. Certain scenes run too long, and drag on the parts we don’t need. As such, scenes have been edited for speed and flow where appropriate.
- Spider-Man no longer is portrayed as having killed the robber from Spider-Man 1. Although we all saw that he didn’t kill that man, for some reason, 3 features Parker having flash backs edited to imply that he did. Weird and un-needed.
Important changes (spoilers to my re-cut follow):
- Cringe-worthy quips removed. Spider-Man is supposed to make jokes, but a lot of lines in this movie, be they from Spider-Man or even Venom, are terrible and out of context. Venom shouldn’t make Eric Foreman style one-off’s before he kills someone.
- On that note, as much of Eddie Brock being Eric Foreman removed as possible. It doesn’t feel in character for Eddie to be oddly whiney, or to be constantly trying to smooth-talk others. His portrayal in 3 also makes Eddie come off particularly gross to women. (Not in a Dolores Umbridge love-to-hate kinda way, but in a “Ew I don’t want to see this” kinda way.)
- Updated intro graphic. Spider-Man 3 had the Marvel intro, but it was the older one.
- Large portions of Sandman cut. We’re shown his motivation almost literally 590 times. I cut it down to 3. Many of his lines are also delivered very strangely, so these were removed for quality.
- Venom’s screech is now a howl. For some reason, Venom sounds like Yoshi in the original.
- Shots of Eddie Brock in Venom but with mask off are reduced to a minimum. Why.
- Harry’s deus ex machina butler is removed. Butler, who are you. Where were you in 2. Stop it.
- Cheesy sound effects / visual effects removed where possible. The movie’s still a bit dated, but less so.
- Many tiny other things. Spider-Man doesn’t say “Shazam” anymore.
Small but important changes (big spoilers to re-cut follow. I recommend not reading these until after watching the re-cut, but hey, I’m not your Mom.):
- Spider-Man doesn’t blow up Harry-Goblin’s face anymore. That’s his own fault now.
- Ending changed! No more super sad bum out.
- After-credits scene! It’s a Marvel movie, after all.

Spider-Man 3 Redemption – A true fanedit that creates a tighter movie with villains moved to supporting roles to allow the Peter/Harry story to reach its deserved finale.
My intention was to try and make an edit of Spider-Man 3 that would stand alongside the first 2 movies and complete the trilogy on the right note.
In this version Flint Marko is no longer the killer of Peter’s uncle, a lot of the humour has also been removed. Peter’s fall to the darkside is no longer brought about through guilt but through his ego and new found self importance.
This version gives more focus to the journeys of Peter and Harry and how both find redemption for themselves.

After witnessing the beautifully crafted Spider-Man 2 we all waited with bated breath for the 2007 release of Spider-Man 3. The trailers and posters promised so much but on its release we saw a movie that just couldn’t live up to the hype.
Studio & director couldn’t agree and production was fraught with scripting & scheduling problems.
The final film felt rushed with too many villains and inter connecting stories all fighting for screen time. Fans felt cheated in the handling of characters & classic storylines.

- Changed the opening scene, removed the Peter monologue, The Broadway musical & Harry taking the performance enhancers has been moved to later.
- Sandman is no longer Uncle Ben’s killer. I have removed all elements of this from the movie.
- Gwen Stacy is no longer a model. All references to this have been removed. It’s hard enough to believe the Peter is dating one model/actress without adding another to the story.Gwen remains now as as an unintentional antagonist to Mary Jane.
- Harry now helps Peter through his own free will; he no longer needs the butler to explain about Norman’s death.
- The symbiote attaches it self to Peter when he is vulnerable after the disaster of his proposal to Mary Jane. His guilt over killing the man he thought responsible for Ben’s death no longer plays a part.
- I have removed a lot of the humour which I felt didn’t work such as the Peter strut & JJ’s desk.
- The Jazz club scene is also shorter removing most of the dance.
- The news reporter and all the scenes with kids have been trimmed or removed as I felt there was over kill in the original cut.
- I have also cut lines of dialogue I felt unnecessary or cheesy, some I couldn’t remove due to it causing problems with the tone of other lines delivery or musical cues sounding out of place. Leaving these lines in shouldn’t cause too many problems.

As far as the editing goes, it is seamless here. I didn't notice anything jarring or strange.
As for the movie. This edit drastically improves Spider-Man 3 for me. If I watch it in the future, I will be watching this version. The characters and their motivations are all strengthened here. The more cringey elements are gone. Sandman's absurd connection to Peter is completely removed. The only thing no edit can fix unfortunately is the fact that Venom is included in this movie. It should've been just Sandman and the black suit. Sandman's character should've been bolstered a little more (without shoehorning it into Peter's origin story). But again, this edit can only work with what's available.
Despite the things I wish weren't in this movie even after so much is stripped away, this edit does increase my rating by a lot. The original I would give a 6/10. There are definitely good things in there, and the first 45 minutes are just as good as the movies that came before (and that beginning largely remains intact in this edit). But this edit I would give a solid 8/10. I actually enjoyed watching this one and didn't feel disappointed by the end.

LOVED the Spidey movies when they first came out, but very disappointed by #3. Upon recent re-watching I'd say:
Spider-Man: 8/10
Spider-Man 2: 9/10
Spider-Man 3: 4/10
For me, the big reason for Sam Raimi to make a 3rd film is to wrap up the Peter/MJ/Harry plots. Pete needs to be shepherded into some kind of professional success, a measure of relationship/domestic stability, and come to terms with his former best friend. He does NOT need a new love interest or new villains. So what I don't need in SM3 is anything that distracts from those issues.
This edit is technically quite good, though some of the CG does look slightly dated now. Cuts were smooth and not distracting. It fixed the issue of Sandman retconning the previous films' story, but now it seems especially tenous for him to even be in the film. What is even the point of him? Venom has a far more grounded reason to be tied up with Peter/SM and be a villain, and yet he's so obviously squeezed in. I really want a SM3 with NO Venom. The focus should've been purely on Harry, but the studio screwed it up and didn't really make him into a proper villain, like The Hobgoblin. Franco kind of seems like he's phoning it in, too.
I don't know if any fanedit can fix these issues and still leave a movie with watching, but this film sadly doesn't do it for me. Halfway through, I realized there was just no redeeming the movie, title besides. A nice technical effort, but sadly it just didn't work for me.

Sam Raimi is a filmmaker who has my deepest empathy, as his great films show true passion and potential. This makes it all the worse when his bad films have constantly been ruined by studio interference, when being given creative control would have made them great.
Thanks to Badscooter, we have a version of this film that is actually the version Sam Raimi intended to make.
What he has done is focus the thematic arc of the film, removing any elements that distracted the viewer from focussing on the elements Sam Raimi wanted us to pay attention to. Little things stick out here and there as subtly profound visual arcs that I completely missed the first time because the other unrelated arcs distracted me from being able to see it; for instance, Harry and Peter's first dialogue scene in the film mirrors their last, with Peter standing over Harry to cut between a low and high angle shot. By having both their first and last conversations as friends visualized the same way, the viewer reflects on everything that has transpired in the evolution of their friendship between those two scenes. They are able to serve as bookends; the visual similarity signals the beginning scene and end scene to the arc of their friendship.
PROFOUND THINGS LIKE THIS ARE SO MUCH MORE CLEAR IN THIS VERSION OF THE FILM!!!
It is truly a well guided thematic arc, refocussing the viewer on what the film is truly about: the horrible things people are willing to do for love, and how those actions evolve into destruction. Every relationship based in love causes the character in question to do horrible things in the name of that love. It evolves into the consequencial flames of the final act of the film, which now has a clearer purpose than when all the subplots that weren't building to it were there.
The only real problem is there's still too much cutting back and forth between the other villains. I'm not sure Badscooter could have altogether cut Sandman and Venom, although I'm not even sure if that was the solution if he could have. Not his fault, but cutting together 3 unrelated narratives of 3 unrelated conflicts from 3 unrelated villains still bogs down the film... only it's less of a problem now due to his brilliant editing choices. It's certainly FAR better than the official editing together of said narratives in the film.
Bravo, Badscooter.

I really wish I could say I enjoyed this. Don't get me wrong, this is probably the best version of this movie we'll see given the material available - but therein lies the problem. Spider-Man 3 is a mess. And on top of being a mess, it's a dour film that ends this trilogy on a sour note.
Which has nothing to do with the edit of course. I loved it when I first saw it some time ago. But upon rewatch, after working my way through the first two films (SM2 is one of my favorite movies), it leaves a lot to be desired. Which makes badscooter's accomplishment all the more amazing, really. badscooter has been able to deftly cut so much of the cringeworthy nonsense that dragged this movie down - Sandman as Ben's killer, Harry's butler reveal, jazz club, etc. And badscooter does wonders at refocussing the film on Harry/MJ/Peter.
Unfortunately, this film's problems are too deeply rooted for even a talented film editor to fix.

The copy I downloaded didnt have the greatest video quality but as I watched it that soon became insignificant.
The removal of Sandmans 'Uncle ben plot' worked brilliantly and a lack of personal stake in Sandman made Peters venom transformation all the more dark.
All the characters were improved as much as they could be while keeping the plot and cast (I'm looking at you Topher Grace) intact.
Spiderman 3 was never an AWFUL movie but its lost potential made it unenjoyable this earns it the qualification of a movie I can ENJOY.
